Force-dependent bond dissociation explains the rate-dependent fracture of vitrimers

چکیده
We find that, in contrast to most viscoelastic polymers previously studied, the intrinsic fracture toughness of vitrimer strongly depends on loading rate while its bulk dissipation associated with crack extension has weak rate-dependence.

Generalized Extended Empirical Bond - Order Dependent Force
We present a general approach for describing chemical processes (bond breaking and bond formation) in materials using force elds (FF) that properly describe multiple bonds at small distances while describing nonbond (Coulomb and van der Waals) interactions at long distances. This approach is referred to as the generalized extended empirical bond-order dependent (GEEBOD) FF. In this paper we use...
متن کاملRate-Dependent Fracture at Adhesive Interface
Schallamach’s theory of rate-dependent bond dissociation is used to understand the fracture of a polymerglass interface. The model system consists of an elastomeric film (20 μm thick) of poly(dimethylsiloxane), chemically bonded to a silanized glass substrate. The fracture energy of the interface varies logarithmically with velocity, which is consistent with Schallamach’s theory of forced bond ...
متن کاملLinker dependent bond rupture force measurements in single-molecule junctions.
We use a modified conducting atomic force microscope to simultaneously probe the conductance of a single-molecule junction and the force required to rupture the junction formed by alkanes terminated with four different chemical link groups which vary in binding strength and mechanism to the gold electrodes. Molecular junctions with amine, methylsulfide, and diphenylphosphine terminated molecule...
متن کاملFailure of elastomeric polymers due to rate dependent bond rupture.
A new cohesive zone model is developed in order to study the mechanisms of adhesive and cohesive failures of soft rubbery materials. The fracture energy is estimated here using a strategy similar to that of Lake and Thomas (LT) by considering the dissipation of stored elastic energy followed by the extension and relaxation of polymer chains. The current model, however, departs from that of LT i...
متن کاملOn the Convergence Rate of the Law of Large Numbers for Sums of Dependent Random Variables
In this paper, we generalize some results of Chandra and Goswami [4] for pairwise negatively dependent random variables (henceforth r.v.’s). Furthermore, we give Baum and Katz’s [1] type results on estimate for the rate of convergence in these laws.
